Americas > Canada

Canada is famed for its mix of cosmopolitan cities and breathtaking countryside. At almost 10,000,000 sq KM, Canada is the world’s second largest country (after Russia) and has a little bit of something for everyone, from Montreal’s vibrant nightlife to the breathtaking scenery of the Niagara Falls.

Canada’s cities have a rich intellectual tradition and offer you the perfect opportunity to soak up the whole coffee shop experience as it was originally intended. Sit and sip a mocca frappe latte while discussing world affairs (or maybe discussing the amazing nightlife you will find in the metropolitan hubs). Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are all choice destinations for those hunting a mix between cosmopolitan and chilled. Those hunting animals, on the other hand, can head out into the countryside and engage their passions!

The magnificent Rocky Mountains run up into Canada from the USA and provide some of the world’s great skiing destinations. It’s no surprise Canadians take their winter sports seriously; with resorts like Whistler on their doorstep they have no excuse not to! Even during the summer months, when skiing and snowboarding are off the agenda, a holiday in Whistler offers you a great range of activities, including hiking and mountain biking through some of the world’s greatest natural scenery.

Unsurprisingly for a country of Canada’s size, fly-drive holidays are popular among visitors. A fly-drive break gives you the chance to get beneath the surface of Canadian life, and find some amazing sites that you would normally only see from the plane! Here are a few ideas for holidays in Canada:

  • Wander the streets of the old town of Montreal, filled with bars, restaurants, shops and musicians, or visit one of Ottowa’s many museums, celebrating Canada’s history and landscapes
  • Take a day trip from Toronto to the spectacular Niagara falls, or tour the famous wine region of the Niagara peninsula with its picturesque wineries, many of which offer year-round tastings
  • Visit Churchill and witness the unique gathering of the majestic polar bears or try your hand at husky sledging and stay at North America’s first ice hotel in Quebec
  • Take to the saddle and ride through the breathtaking alpine scenery of British Columbia. Travel the mountains nomadic style spotting moose, mountain goats, grizzlys and black bears along the way

Peak tourist season in Canada runs from mid-June to mid-September, but the winter months offer the best opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. The grizzly bears come out in the autumn, just as the salmon are swimming upstream. This is one of nature’s great sights and offers a great opportunity for anyone with a passion for fishing to catch ‘the big one!’
