Europe > East and South Eastern Europe

Explore East and South Eastern Europe with Red Seven. Holidays in this part of the world are becoming increasingly popular, as happy travellers come home and tell their friends about the hidden gems of the region.

The Czech Republic, Hungary and Bulgaria are fantastic destinations for short city breaks. Capital cities Prague, Budapest and Sofia have all the elegance of old Europe but with a distinctly modern edge. You can spend days just appreciating the glorious architecture of these cities. Classic and neo-Byzantine architecture mingles alongside buzzy boutiques and full-on nightlife.

The North of this region offers great skiing conditions on some of Europe’s least crowded slopes. The mountainous landscapes offer a great challenge to hikers and bikers in the summer.

Further south, you will find stunning coastlines and warm water perfect for a beach holiday away from the typical Mediterranean resorts. Croatia and Bulgaria attract a diverse crowd of visitors from across Europe and are considered by many to be the ‘next big thing’ both for holidaying and nightlife. In the years since the iron curtain came down, these countries have been working and playing harder than anyone!

  • Wander through the walled medieval city of Dubrovnik visiting the monasteries, museums and cathedrals and then explore the Dalmatian Islands on a Croatian Adriatic cruise
  • Travel one third of the world on the legendary Trans-Siberian Railway from London to Vladivostok, covering over 8000 miles and crossing 11 time zones
  • Discover Bulgaria’s dramatic scenery as you hike the Rila Mountains and climb the highest mountain in the Balkan Peninsula, Musala Peak, before descending to the ancient Rila Monastery
  • Try your hand at mountain biking with an off-road adventure amongst Cappadocia’s volcanic rock spires, caves and canyons in central Turkey
  • Relax on the sun-kissed beaches of Cyprus and enjoy a scenic walk through the beautiful pine woods and waterfalls of the Troodos Mountains

Travellers seeking sunshine should head to this region between May and September, although the southern countries are pleasant all year round. Further north, the winter months can get very cold and the days are generally short. Skiing conditions are good during the winter months and the region’s resorts can offer excellent value.
