Middle East > Middle East

For an experience unlike any other, take a journey of discovery in the Middle East. Often referred to as the cradle of civilisation, the region has unique, uncompromising landscape perfect for the adventurer in you.

Alongside some of the oldest towns and cities in the world, you will find some of the most modern. The ancient city of Jerusalem sits in the Israeli desert and is home to some of the world’s most ancient architecture. A walk around the town brings the past to life and offers a fantastic opportunity to rummage around fantastic markets.

Meanwhile, Dubai is on the cutting edge of entertainment and hospitality. Often seen as a playground of the rich and famous, the Emirate state has an unparalleled selection of luxury shops and upmarket entertainment. Where else on earth could you find an indoor beach complete with waves and a ski slope with real snow in the middle of the desert? This is an experience not to be missed.

  • Don’t miss the Egyptian museum in Cairo where the legendary solid-gold death mask of Tutankhamun is on display, and marvel at the pyramids in Giza, the sole survivors of the seven wonders of the world
  • Experience some of the most spectacular desert scenery in the world at Laurance of Arabia’s hideout, Wadi Rum, Jordan, and visit the forgotten city of Petra, with its famous ruins and monasterys.
  • Wander the streets of Marrakesh with its snake charmers and magicians, and try your hand at haggling at one of the many souks before enjoying the breathtaking views from the Atlas mountains
  • Shop till you drop in the traditional markets, modern malls and exclusive boutiques of Dubai and stay in the famous Jumeira Beach Hotel, shaped like a breaking wave
  • Explore the Lycian Coast from a bareboat yacht, or travel inland to Ankara and take in the ancient cities and architecture of the great Anatolian empires

The Middle East can be fearsomely hot all year round, so be prepared. The holy festival of Ramadan takes place in the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. Eating, drinking and smoking are strictly forbidden outdoors during this time although all hotels will make a private room available so guests can eat during the day. Alcohol may only be served in a private room after sunset. Islamic countries take a dim view of those who break the law.
