Special Interest > Cultural and History

It’s a wide world out there. With so many amazing sights to visit and take in, let us take you to what you want to see. We have a range of specialist holidays which offer you the chance to experience new cultures and connect with ancient ones.

Our packages can put you face to face with history, be it the ancient history of the Middle East or the fading colonial splendour of old British outposts around the globe. Of course, if a whole holiday dedicated to sites of interest seems too much, we can include a few days of cultural and historical visits within a more traditional holiday format. A visit to the Amazon, for example, wouldn’t be complete without checking out Ancient Inca ruins, much as a trip to Egypt would not be complete without at least glancing at a pyramid.

One great way to take in culture while on holiday is to visit during a festival. Aside from the famous carnivals in Rio and New Orleans, you could catch the New Year celebrations in Hong Kong or the unique Santa Lucia celebrations in Scandinavia.

  • Step into history and with a trip to the ancient land of the Pharaohs, visiting the temples of the Valley of the Kings and the museums and Pyramids of Cairo
  • Visit Italy, the home of the Renaissance, on a special art history trip to Florence, or a tour of Italy’s major Opera houses.
  • Explore the Mayan ruins of Mexico, Belize and Guatemala by day, taking time out for tequila at night
  • Cross the roof of the world to Tibet, visiting the Potala in Lhasa, the former home of the Dalai Lama
  • Escape to Greece, the land of myths, legends and oracles, as well as one of the world’s most idyllic coastlines

As with all holidays, you must bear in mind what time of year you book for. During a festival can be a fantastic time to visit a country, but be prepared for crowds and raised prices. Not all sites of historical interest are open all year. Check before booking.
